Introduction to Healing, Loving, & You

My awakening began in 1967 after a period of deep despair and questioning the meaning and purpose of life. I was guided at that time to the works of Edgar Cayce, and discovered reincarnation and the concept of spiritual evolution. From that point on, for more than thirty years, I have explored many teachings, many traditions. Along the way, I myself developed the awareness, the skill, and the heart opening which led many others to study and work with me for their own healing and growth.

I never set out to be a “healer.” For quite a while I didn’t even use the term, feeling it to be rather arrogant, since the true healing comes from the Source, the Universal Power, and not from any individual. Yet, I came to understand that the one through whom the healing love and energy flows, may justifiably be considered a healer - in my case, a healer of souls.

Originally, I was a teacher - actually a high school English teacher. So as I began to focus on spiritual matters, I was most comfortable in the role of teacher. Yet these are titles only, and ultimately mean nothing. Pat Rodegast’s wonderful Guide, Emmanuel, once said to me, “Those who teach with love, heal; and those who heal with love, teach.”

In any case, the real point is to be in service to a Higher Purpose. When one is committed to serving, one uses whatever gifts one has, in whatever form is most helpful. I have known extraordinary people who heal by singing, by dancing, by telling jokes.

My own path has taken me through many years of self-examination, reaching into my own childhood wounds, confronting my own ego needs and fears. It has often been lonely. It has often been frustrating. It has required me to make some painful decisions. Yet, through it all, my capacity for touching others and helping them heal their pain and suffering grew.

As a Spiritual Therapist, I view each one who comes to me as a Being in progress. Though we may be at different levels, different stages of growth, all of us are in the process of evolving, becoming more fully Who We Really Are - beautiful, joyful, loving, and wise.

And we are creative beings. Some of the most important lessons I have learned, and taught, concern the innate creative power of our minds. As we think, as we focus our attention, as we believe, so does it become true for us. If nothing but this one lesson were grasped by humanity, we would most certainly change the world.

In working with countless individuals and groups over the years, I bore witness to much pain and sorrow. Seeking ways to help facilitate the healing process, I was guided to develop techniques based in meditation and guided imagery, which bring one to the level of awareness where the problem originated. At that level, one can release the energetic patterns (“cutting the cord”) and literally change one’s mind. The result is a new level of wholeness and peace. Many, many people have been healed and have grown through this process.

However, in recent times, as the Universe’s plan for human evolution has increased in intensity, I knew I needed an approach that would be faster and easier. I wanted to be able to help others heal core issues and release blocks without having to spend a year or more in weekly therapy sessions.

Of course, we know that we only have to “ask and we shall receive.” Thus, when the time was right, I was led to several new “high-tech” healing modalities which were exactly what I was looking for. These modalities, including Thought-Field Therapy™, developed by Roger Callahan, Tapas Acupressure Technique™, developed by Tapas Fleming, and Gary Craig's Emotional Freedom Technique combined with the use of advanced Pendulum Dowsing, have opened new doors for me. Incorporating these methods into my Spiritual Therapy practice has broadened my scope and provided more rapid relief and healing for many psychological problems. (They have also raised many more questions about the mind-body energy connection!)

Over the years, I’ve offered programs for those who wanted to learn how to do what I do. That was when the real lesson came home. For many of these people had gone through traditional university training programs in psychotherapy. Yet those “trainings” were not of much use in this type of work. Textbooks and theories matter little when you’re face to face with a real person who’s sobbing with intense grief, or who’s enraged over childhood abuse or abandonment.

In the end, what you do is not as important as what you are. Spiritual healing is not really about techniques, but rather it is about Love. Always, it is the energy of Love that heals. Thus, whatever form your path takes, if you wish to be of service to others, you must be a clear and pure channel for Love.

And that is the message of this little book. Healing, Loving, and You, which flowed from my own Higher Self in response to questions about my own work, which seems on the verge of expanding once again. I was wondering what I could offer to others who are themselves teachers and healers. I was inspired to write what follows for those of you who are also dedicated to serving, in order that you may understand more clearly the true nature of your calling.

For those of you reading this who feel you are still seeking, or who don’t necessarily serve as “official” teachers or healers, I believe that you too will find the message meaningful. It is, after all, about healing, loving, and you.
